Even as the controversy over Hindi continues in Tamil Nadu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in his Mann ki Baat address that the Kashi-Tamil Sangamam to be held from December 2 will offer an opportunity to learn Tamil. The event, held in Varanasi, will have an interesting theme this year: Learn Tamil-Tamil Karkalam.

"The Kashi-Tamil Sangamam has become an important platform for all of those who are attached to the Tamil language. Whenever one speaks to the people of Kashi… they always say that they enjoy being a part of the Kashi-Tamil Sangamam. Here they get the opportunity to learn something new and meet new people. This time too, the people of Kashi are very eager to welcome their brothers and sisters from Tamil Nadu with full enthusiasm. I urge all of you to be a part of the Kashi-Tamil Sangamam," Modi said.

Calling for strengthening the idea of "Ek Bharat, Shreshta Bharat", he spoke a few lines in Tamil which translate to "Tamil culture is great, Tamil language is great, Tamil is the pride of India".

Tamil Nadu goes to polls in 2026 and the Hindi issue is likely to become one of the key issues.
