Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed deep concern over the violent protests in Nepal, describing the loss of young lives as “heart-wrenching”.

In a post on X after a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security Affairs, Modi said, “The violence that has occurred in Nepal is heart-wrenching. My heart is extremely disturbed by the fact that many young people have lost their lives. Nepal's stability, peace, and prosperity are of utmost importance. I humbly appeal to all my brothers and sisters in Nepal to maintain peace and order.”

The Prime Minister said the developments in Nepal were discussed in detail during the security affairs meeting after his return from a day-long tour.

The comments came as Nepal continues to face a political crisis following mass student-led protests that led to the resignation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Tuesday. At least 19 people died in police action during demonstrations against a social media ban and alleged corruption.
