The telephonic conversation happened after US President Joe Biden telephoned Modi on Monday night to discuss the PM's Ukraine trip.
During his conversation with Putin, Modi underlined the importance of dialogue and diplomacy as well as sincere and practical engagement among all stakeholders to achieve an abiding and peaceful resolution of the conflict, officials informed. Modi had conveyed the message of dialogue and diplomacy to the Ukraine President during their meeting in Kyiv last Friday.
According to a Kremlin readout, Putin shared his principled assessment of the destructive policies of the Kyiv authorities and their Western patrons, and went on to highlight Russia's approaches to resolving this conflict.
The two leaders expressed satisfaction with the way the two countries have been working together within BRICS. Modi reaffirmed his readiness to take part in the October 2024 Kazan Summit, to be held as part of Russia's BRICS chairmanship, according to the Kremlin readout.
The two leaders reviewed progress on a number of bilateral issues and discussed measures to strengthen the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between India and Russia. They also exchanged views on a range of regional and global issues of mutual interest, officials here informed.
The two leaders also discussed practical steps needed to implement trade and economic agreements resulting from Modi's official visit to Russia in July 2024.
At the July annual summit when Modi visited Russia, the two sides announced an initiative for development of strategic areas of economic cooperation to achieve a bilateral trade target of $100 billion by 2030.
The initiative or 'Leaders' Joint Statement on the development of strategic areas of Russia-India economic cooperation for the period up to 2030' was announced after the 22nd edition of the annual summit. The two sides signed nine MoUs across sectors including one to facilitate further increase in trade and joint investment projects between the Far East Region of Russia and India.
The joint statement on economic cooperation encompasses introduction of digital financial instruments, exploring new long-term contracts for crude supplies, additional Indian investments in Far-East Russia and increased trade volumes via INSTC, Northern Sea Route and Vladivostok-Chennai corridor.
