The attack, which occurred in the Pahalgam region of Anantnag district, has resulted in the deaths of at least 26 people, with 20 others left injured. The incident is one of the deadliest terror strikes in the region in recent years since the 2019 Pulwama attack.

The prime minister arrived in Jeddah on Tuesday for an initially planned two-day visit which came at the invitation of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
During his stay, Modi and the Crown Prince were expected to co-chair the second meeting of the Strategic Partnership Council, which was established during the Prime Minister's 2019 visit to further strengthen bilateral relations.

""The recent terror attack in Kashmir was discussed, and his royal Highness, the Crown Prince, condemned the terror attack and offered any help to India in this regard. India and Saudi Arabia have cooperation in issues related to terrorism, and we continue to work together," he said.
In the wake of the J&K attack, Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Srinagar to take stock of the situation after a telephonic conversation with the PM. Shah held a held high-level security meeting with CM Omar Abdullah and other officials to coordinate efforts in the investigation and to ensure the safety of citizens in the region.
PM Modi has also expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and reiterated India's commitment to combating terrorism.
"I strongly condemn the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured recover at the earliest. All possible assistance is being provided to those affected. Those behind this heinous act will be brought to justice...they will not be spared! Their evil agenda will never succeed. Our resolve to fight terrorism is unshakable and it will get even stronger," he wrote on X.
