Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday strongly condemned the terrorist attack in New Orleans that claimed 15 lives and injured 30 others.

Expressing solidarity with the victims and their families, the PM said, "We strongly condemn the cowardly terrorist attack in New Orleans. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. May they find strength and solace as they heal from this tragedy."

The attack occurred early on New Year's Day when Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a US Army veteran, drove a rented vehicle into a crowd in the historic French Quarter. Jabbar, who was flying an ISIS flag from his truck, was killed in a shootout with police. Investigators are probing whether he acted alone or had accomplices, with the FBI confirming the discovery of weapons and potential explosive devices in the vehicle and surrounding areas.

The victims included individuals from diverse walks of life, such as a young mother celebrating her new job, a visiting student-athlete, and an aspiring nurse. Witnesses described the horrifying scene, with one saying, “You just heard the rev of the engine, a huge impact, and people screaming.”

Authorities are also investigating any links between this attack and a separate incident involving a Tesla Cybertruck explosion outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas. However, no connection has been confirmed so far.
