India stands firmly with UAE; ready to support peace efforts through dialogue: MEA
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday strongly condemned the attack on the Fujairah Petroleum Industries Zone in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) that left three Indian nationals injured, amid escalating US-Iran tensions. He said that India stood in firm solidarity with the UAE, reiterating New Delhi's support for the peaceful resolution of all issues through dialogue and diplomacy.

"Strongly condemn the attacks on the UAE that resulted in injuries to three Indian nationals. Targeting civilians and infrastructure is unacceptable," the Prime Minister wrote in a post on X.

"India stands in firm solidarity with the UAE and reiterates its support for the peaceful resolution of all issues through dialogue and diplomacy. Ensuring safe and unimpeded navigation through the Strait of Hormuz is vital for enduring regional peace, stability, and global energy security," the post added.

Modi is planning a brief visit to the UAE on May 15, en route to Europe.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), in a statement, noted that the attack on Fujairah, which injured three Indian nationals, is unacceptable. "We call for the immediate cessation of these hostilities and the targeting of civilian infrastructure and innocent civilians. India continues to stand for dialogue and diplomacy to deal with the situation, so that peace and stability may be restored across West Asia," the MEA affirmed.

"We also call for free and unimpeded navigation and commerce through the Strait of Hormuz in keeping with international law. India stands ready to support all efforts for a peaceful resolution of issues," the MEA added.

The UAE defence ministry said its air defences had intercepted 15 missiles and four drones fired by Iran. Authorities in the eastern emirate of Fujairah stated that one drone triggered a fire at its largest oil facility, injuring three Indian workers.

On Tuesday, Iran's foreign minister Abbas Araghchi said on X that both the US and the UAE "should be wary of being dragged back into a quagmire."
