PM Modi begins special 11-day rituals & fasting ahead of Ram Mandir consecration in Ayodhya

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will fast and observe the required holy practices as envisaged in the Vedic texts from Friday onwards till the consecration of the idols at the Ram temple in Ayodhya on January 22. He will continue with his official duties as usual during this period.

Government sources said that Modi will perform the requisite prayers and practices for 11 days till the consecration of the idols. This includes waking up before sunrise, meditation and having a sattvic diet.

In a message in Hindi on social media site X, Modi said, "Only 11 days are left for the pran pratishta (consecration) of Ramlalla at Ayodhya. It is by good fortune that I will be a witness to this holy event. God has made me the representative of people of Bharat for this pran pratishta. Keeping this in mind, I will perform the special prayers starting today for the next 11 days. I seek the blessings of the people for this. At such a moment, it is very difficult to express my feelings...."


In a video message on YouTube, the PM said the whole country is excitedly waiting for the consecration. Several generations had dreamt of this event. For him, Modi said, this is a very intense feeling which I have never felt before. This feeling can only be felt and is indescribable.

Modi started this process from Panchavati, the place where Lord Ram, Sita and Lakshman are believed to have spent their time during their exile, in Nashik on Friday.

Modi said the feelings of 140 crore Indians will be with him when he performs the rituals on January 22.
