The honour was presented during Modi’s visit to Rome, where he held bilateral talks with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and participated in a series of diplomatic engagements.
The FAO Agricola Medal is among the organisation’s highest recognitions and is awarded to global leaders for their efforts in advancing agricultural transformation and improving food systems.
Responding to the honour, Modi said the award reflected India’s commitment towards strengthening agriculture and ensuring food security.
“I accept the FAO’s ‘Agricola Medal’ with great humility. I express my heartfelt gratitude to the FAO for this honour. I dedicate this medal to the food providers of India. This is an honour for millions of Indian farmers, livestock keepers, fish farmers, agricultural scientists, and workers,” the Prime Minister said in a post on X.
“Honoured to receive the FAO’s Agricola Medal. It reflects India’s unwavering commitment to food security, sustainable development and the hard work of those associated with our agriculture sector,” Modi added.
