Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday spoke with Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways and Dibrugarh MP Sarbananda Sonowal over the phone to review the flood situation in Assam and assured full support from the Centre for relief, rescue and rehabilitation efforts.

Sonowal, who is currently in Dibrugarh overseeing relief efforts and visiting flood-affected areas, briefed the Prime Minister on the prevailing situation, including ongoing rescue operations, relief measures and the condition of affected families.

He also shared updates from his recent visits to flood-hit districts, where he interacted with residents and reviewed the response on the ground.


During the conversation, the Prime Minister reiterated that the safety and wellbeing of the people of Assam remain a priority for the Central government.

Sonowal said an Inter-Ministerial Central Team has already reached Assam and begun assessing the damage in the affected districts in coordination with the state government, following the Prime Minister's directions.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji expressed his deep concern and unwavering commitment towards the people of Assam by personally reviewing the flood situation and assuring the state's citizens of the Centre's full support. The Modi Government has always stood firmly with Assam during every natural calamity. Acting on his directions, an Inter-Ministerial Central Team has already reached the state to assess the damage and work in close coordination with the Assam Government. The PM Modi ji has assured that there will be no shortage of assistance for rescue operations, relief distribution and long-term rehabilitation. We remain committed to ensuring that every affected family receives timely support and that the recovery process is carried out swiftly and effectively." Sonowal said.
