New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday asked people to be vigilant and take precautions against Covid-19, as he noted that the virus was spreading in many countries.

In his last 'Mann ki Baat' address of the year, he said many people are on a vacation or will go on one during Christmas and the New Year and urged them to follow protocols like wearing masks and washing hands to ensure that their enjoyment is not adversely affected by the virus.

The prime minister emphasised the importance of evidence-based research in the case of yoga and ayurveda and said these have stood the tests of modern science.

While yoga has been found to play an important role in treatment of breast cancer, syncope (fainting), heart diseases, sleep disorders and problems faced by pregnant women, ayurveda and traditional medicines have proven cures for several diseases, he said.

The PM said in modern science the most important aspect was evidence.

While the results were visible in traditional practices and yoga, a major challenge was to prove their efficacy.

"I am happy that in the era of evidence-based medicine, yoga and ayurveda are now standing up to the touchstone of tests of the modern era," Modi said.
