Plea in Supreme Court challenges appointment of CEC Gyanesh Kumar, ECs Sandhu and Joshi
New Delhi: A plea has been filed before the Supreme Court, challenging the appointments of CEC Gyanesh Kumar and election commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, raising questions over the legality of the process followed for their selection.

The petition challenges the appointments on constitutional grounds and questions the composition of the selection committee constituted under the law governing the appointment of CEC and other ECs.

The plea raises wider constitutional concerns regarding the independence of the poll panel and the need to ensure that appointments to the constitutional body are made through a process that inspires public confidence.

The petition seeks appropriate relief from the Supreme Court in relation to the appointments and the procedure followed for selecting the three members of the Election Commission of India.
