Plea challenging UGC's equity regulations filed in Supreme Court

University Grants Commission (Promotion of Equity in Higher Education Institutions) Regulations, 2026, was notified earlier this month and applies to all higher educational institutions in India.

New Delhi: A plea challenging University Grants Commission (UGC)'s recently notified rules to prevent caste discrimination in campuses has been filed in the Supreme Court. The plea contends that the said rules exclude 'general category' students from complaining under its grievance redressal mechanism.
