Piyush Goyal to meet food ministers of states, UTs

Union minister of commerce and industry, consumer affairs, food & public distribution and textiles Piyush Goyal will meet food ministers of all states/UTs to discuss community kitchens and other issues.

A writ petition was filed in the Supreme Court regarding establishing the concept of community kitchens across the country to provide food to the needy and create a national food grid for persons beyond the scope of the Public Distribution System to fight hunger and malnutrition.

The court has directed the Union of India to come up with a model community kitchens scheme together with states within three weeks.
