Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal pitched India as a long-term investment destination in insurance, financial services, technology and other emerging sectors during meetings with senior executives of AIA Group, MetLife, General Atlantic and IBM in New York.

Goyal urged the global firms to deepen their engagement with India, highlighting the country's regulatory reforms, growing demand, expanding digital ecosystem and large technology talent pool as opportunities for investment and collaboration.

The minister met Mark Tucker, chairman of AIA Group; Michel A Khalaf, president and CEO of MetLife; William E Ford, chairman and CEO of General Atlantic; and Arvind Krishna, chairman and CEO of IBM.

Goyal's insurance pitch

In his meeting with Tucker, Goyal discussed AIA's existing engagement in India and opportunities to expand investments in the insurance and financial services sectors.

Goyal said India's comprehensive regulatory reforms and rising demand for insurance coverage offered global insurers a platform for long-term growth, in line with the government's vision of "Insurance for All by 2047".

He also discussed MetLife's growth opportunities in India with Khalaf. Goyal highlighted the country's expanding insurance and financial services sector, rising demand for long-term savings and protection, and deep technology talent as areas that could support greater collaboration.
