Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal is set to visit Japan from August 24 to 27, along with India’s largest-ever business delegation to the country, the government announced on Sunday.

According to the statement released by the Commerce Ministry,Goyal, along with 200 business representatives will hold a series of meetings with the top leadership of major Japanese conglomerates and industrial houses alongside a round-table with Keidanren (Japan Business Federation), the apex body representing over 1,500 leading Japanese companies.

Goya’s Japan visit comprises sessions planned on semiconductors and artificial intelligence, start-ups, and engagement with foreign institutional investors. He will also hold bilateral talks with his counterpart, Akazawa Ryosei, call on senior members of the Japanese Government and Parliament and interact with the Indian community in Japan.

According to the statement, the trade minister will promote investment and meet business leaders in Nagoya, focusing on the auto and steel industries.

“In Nagoya, the industrial heartland of Central Japan, the Minister will lead a roadshow with Chukeiren (Central Japan Economic Federation) and the Nagoya Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and engage with the Aichi Prefecture leadership and major manufacturing investors in the automotive and steel sectors,” the release said.

He will conclude his Japan visit in Osaka with Investors and Business Roadshow, along with meetings with leading Japanese companies across electronics, industrial and consumer sectors to showcase opportunities across India’s manufacturing, clean energy and consumer markets.

The Ministry said the visit intends to give a renewed push to bilateral trade and investment ties, and open new avenues of cooperation in high-technology manufacturing and next-generation industries.

India continues to be a key destination for Japanese investment. Japan ranks as India’s fifth-largest investor, with cumulative investments exceeding $48 billion from April 2000 to March 2026. About 1,500 Japanese companies operate in India, and a recent Japan External Trade Organisation survey showed that more than 80% plan to expand their businesses over the next one to two years. Bilateral trade also surpassed $27 billion in 2025–26, highlighting the growing economic partnership between the two countries.
