Commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal asked industry and think tanks to come up with India-centric indices on issues such as malnutrition, hunger and stunting, and junk reports by foreign organisations.

"Unfortunately, we in India depend only on foreign companies or think tanks or organisations preparing indexes on our data or on our country, bashing us for no rhyme or reason. Very often useless bashing we get," Goyal said at the Global Economic Policy Summit organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

India has slipped six spots in the 2022 Global Hunger Index, ranking 107 out of 121 countries.
