Commerce and Industry minister Piyush Goyal Thursday asked Indian companies to support goods manufactured in the country. The minister said other countries were also talking about programmes similar to Aatmanirbhar Bharat and the world wanted to emulate the India story.

His statement came close on the heels of US President Joe Biden's statement on need to Make in America in the latest State of the Union Address.

"Today other countries are also talking about programmes similar to Aatmanirbhar Bharat. The world today wants to emulate the India story," Goyal said at a webinar on Make in India organised by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).

Biden's speech emphasised on the need to "Invest in America" similar to New Delhi's "Make in India, Make for the world" programme. Washington's aim to provide clean water to drink at home and at school, and affordable high-speed internet for every American, is on the lines of India's 'Har Ghar Jal', the Jal Jeevan Mission.

While the US aims to protect access to health care, India has already put in place more than 80,000 health and wellness centres, and allotted Ayushman Bharat cards to the poor. The government has provided affordable medicines via over 8,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras. 'Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission'.

Biden's announcement of "modernizing roads, airports, ports, and waterways all across America" is similar to India's Gati Shakti National Master Plan.
