Delhi police on Sunday said that a pistol without magazine was found in a schoolbag of a 10-year-old student Najafgarh. The boy thought it to be a toy and carried with him to the school, they added.

The incident occurred at a private school in the Deepeak Vihar area on Saturday, after which the Najafgarh police station got a call, said a senior police officer to PTI. The police found that the class 6 student possessed his father's licensed pistol upon reaching the school.

The boy's mother confirmed that her husband owned a licensed pistol upon being called in by the school management.



"The woman said her husband had passed away a few months ago and she had kept the pistol outside to deposit it at the police station," the officer said.

The boy the police that he thought it to be a toy, the officer added.

The police came to the conclusion that no congnisable offence had been made after verifying the pistol license and finding it valid.

"The pistol was deposited by the boy's mother at the police storehouse the same day," said the officer.
