Guwahati: Pilong Village in Kamjong burnt down in Manipur on Thursday.

A senior police officer said that the abandoned village Pilong in Manipur’s Kamjong district was burnt on Thursday by suspected militants. “ Though there are no reports of any casualty, security forces have rushed to the area.”

The incident occurred a day after the Director General of police Mukesh Singh visited Kamjong and Chassad on Wednesday.

The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), along with like-minded Naga civil society organisations, has announced plans to launch a massive campaign across Manipur from October 31 if the state government fails to end the ongoing conflict by October 30.

The announcement was made during a sit-in protest organised by COCOMI, the Foothills Naga Coordinating Committee (FNCC) and the Naga Humanitarian Aid Committee Manipur (NHACM) at Lamphel on Thursday. The protesters demanded an end to what they described as “India’s proxy war” in the state.

In several places across Manipur’s valley districts, protests took place on Thursday. Many protesters demonstrated against the recent killing of three Meitei men in Manipur.

On Wednesday a large group clashed with the police outside a sports complex in Imphal when Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh was attending an event inside.

Militants ambushed 14 Meitei men, killing three of them, when they were collecting firewood in Sunurok hills in Kangpokpi district on October 19.
