Pilgrim registration for Kedarnath has been suspended till 3rd May 2023 after continuous snowfall and bad weather conditions in the region.

"Due to bad weather and snowfall in Kedarnath, the registration of pilgrims for Kedarnath has been stopped till tomorrow May 3. The decision regarding registration will be taken keeping in view the weather conditions," Mayur Dixit, Rudraprayag District Magistrate (DM) said in report to ANI.

In the meantime, registration is still ongoing for Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham at the passenger registration centers located in Rishikesh, according to the District Magistrate.

Rudraprayag District Magistrate Mayur Dixit said that an appeal has been made for the safety of the pilgrims coming to visit Kedarnath Dham.

On Monday, the Meteorological Department issued a yellow alert for the state, with a forecast of heavy rain, hailstorms and snowfall in the high Himalayan regions for the next 2-3 days, which also prompted authorities to issue an appeal to Chardham pilgrims to proceed with their journey only after taking necessary precautions.

In the wake of prevalent weather conditions, the DM had on Monday appealed to pilgrims coming to visit Kedarnath to stay where they are for the time being for their safety.

Snowfall and rain, which had triggered a landslide on the Badrinath national highway on Sunday, disrupting the yatra to the temple for nine hours, continued on Monday too.

Earlier on April 25 the day the doors of Kedarnath Dham opened, the Uttarakhand government stopped accepting registration applications from pilgrims for the Kedarnath Dham Yatra in view of heavy snowfall on the pilgrimage route and a warning of inclement weather by the Met Department.

The Kedarnath temple is one of the most revered temples in the country dedicated to Lord Shiva and people from across the country visit the temple during the six months when the temple is open.
