A PIL has been filed in Gauhati High Court for the alleged extra-judicial killings in Assam. The public interest litigation petition has been filed pertaining to fake encounters unleashed by Assam police seeking Special Investigation Team (SIT) to be formed. Petitioner Arif Jwadder has sought issuing of an appropriate Writ or Order or Direction calling for records pertaining to the 'fake encounters' unleashed by Assam police and ordering for registration of First Information Report (FIRs) for an offense under Section 302 IPC, and other enabling sections and directing an independent investigation against the police personnel concerned by an independent agency such as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Special Investigation Team (SIT) to be formed by this court. The PIL also sought the formation of police teams from other state under the supervision of this court for and get the concerned police personnel involved in the 'fake encounters' brought to justice.
