Partha Chatterjee to stay in ED custody till tomorrow

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) remanded former minister Partha Chatterjee and his close aide Arpita Mukherjee to another two days of custody till August 5, after their ten-day custody ended on Wednesday.

Nine apartments have been reportedly found, among which five are in the name of Mukherjee and a company has been traced under the name of 'APA Utility Services', which is a partnership company, which owns five apartments, ED informed the court.

The federal agency informed the court that Chatterjee was not cooperating during the interrogation and hence needed to be taken into custody, sources told ET. The agency had sought four-day custody for Chatterjee and three-day custody for Mukherjee.


The duo was produced in court on Wednesday afternoon, following a medical test at ESI Hospital. "We have appealed to court for short custody. The honourable court in its wisdom has given a remand of two days. The court has accepted the plea and also allowed me to meet her for 15 minutes," Arpita's lawyer Niladri Bhattacharya told ET.
