Internet job frauds are rising across the country. In a shocking report, 15 cases have been reported in Hyderabad alone in the past three days where individuals lost over Rs 1.6 crore in the part-time job fraud scheme. As per a ToI report, Hyderabad police recently arrested an international cyber fraud syndicate involved in investment and part-time job.

Among the unfortunate victims stands Ram Chander (name changed), a 50-year-old electrical engineer and central government employee, who found himself entangled in the clutches of this deceitful operation. Chander approached the Cyberabad police after incurring a staggering loss of 90 lakh within the span of just one month.

Chander recounted his ordeal, describing how it all began with an innocuous Telegram message from an individual named Divya, offering enticing part-time online work opportunities. His assigned role revolved around furnishing favorable ratings for clients on a travel booking platform, purportedly linked to an array of resorts and hotels. Promises of daily earnings ranging from Rs 850 to Rs 3,000 were dangled before him.

Guided by Divya, Chander embarked on this venture, receiving a webpage link containing a registration code. Succumbing to the lure, he submitted his phone number and bank account details, subsequently reaping an initial bonus of Rs 1,130.

His trust firmly established, Chander was cajoled into pursuing a new set of tasks by depositing Rs 11,300. Following each task's completion, a portion of his purported earnings was permitted for withdrawal, thereby weaving a facade of legitimacy around the operation. Encouraged by illusory profits, Chander was eventually manipulated into transferring a staggering Rs 90 lakh into various bank accounts between June 3 and July 17.

The fraudsters skillfully manipulated Chander's perceptions, artificially inflating his virtual profits and relentlessly demanding more deposits. Eventually, his investments peaked at a massive Rs 2.23 crore virtual profit, while his actual returns amounted to a meager Rs 20,100.

When asked for an additional Rs 47 lakh, Chander finally grasped the reality of the scam and promptly lodged a complaint.

Recognizing the gravity of the situation, a senior official from the Telangana State Cyber Security Bureau (TSCSB) affirmed their commitment to conducting a comprehensive investigation into the rampant investment and part-time job fraud cases.
