Parliament winter session scheduled for Nov 25-Dec 20

The Winter Session of the Parliament is set to take place from November 25 to December 20, 2024, Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju said on Tuesday.

Notably, on November 26, which marks Constitution Day, commemorating the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Indian Constitution.

The Constituent Assembly adopted the Constitution in 1949 in the same building. The Constitution came into effect on January 26, 1950. While earlier November 26 used to be celebrated as National Law Day, in 2015 the Modi government announced that it would be observed as Constitution Day, marking the 125th birth anniversary of BR Ambedkar.



Parliament will have the session with 21 sittings, taking up significant legislation and potentially reflecting the outcome of assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand.

The session may likely take up the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, having considering the recommendations from the joint parliamentary committee. The government is also anticipated to brief Parliament on the India-China disengagement efforts in eastern Ladakh.

A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) victory in the two poll-bound states, following their win in Haryana, could strengthen their position in pushing their legislative agenda. However, a BJP defeat might push opposition parties for discussions on issues they find important.
