The statistics ministry is working with the ministry of women and child development (MWCD) on a national child survey, which is likely to provide details on children working in the informal sector, street children and out-of-school children, besides mapping the needs of children requiring care and protection, as per a parliamentary panel report tabled on Monday. The standing committee on finance said reliable and timely statistics were necessary to safeguard child rights .

Rajya Sabha okays Bankers' Evidence Bill

The Rajya Sabha on Monday passed the Bankers' Books Evidence Bill, 2026. In her reply, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman noted that an expanded definition of bankers' books is being brought in which includes records maintained in written or physical form or stored in electronic or digital form or otherwise, either on-site or off-site or at a virtual or cloud location, including backup or disaster recovery sites. The Lok Sabha had passed the Bill last week. Sitharaman noted that the Bill recognises electronic and digital banking records, standardises the certification process and facilitates the admissibility of electronic banking records.

No clause for refund of NPS corpus to state

Minister of state for finance Pankaj Chaudhary informed the Lok Sabha that there is no provision under the PFRDA Act, 2013, or the related Exit and Withdrawal Regulations, 2015, that allows refund of a subscriber's accumulated NPS corpus back to the state government. Five states have informed the government of reversion from NPS to OPS:
