The Sharpoorji Pallonji Group started in 1865 with a notable construction history dating back to 1887 - Littlewood Pallonji & Co. was one of the companies that helped to build a large Malabar Hill reservoir. The Reserve Bank of India, the Oberoi Hotel in Mumbai, and the blue-and-gold Al Alam palace for the Sultan of Oman are some of its other iconic projects.

Early life
Pallonji Mistry was born on June 1, 1929, to a Parsi family from Gujarat. He did his schooling in Mumbai and proceeded to go to London for his higher studies. He later joined the family business.

Family
In 2003, he surrendered his Indian citizenship and became an Irish citizen. He was married to an Ireland-born national Patsy Perin Dubash. Laila and Aloo were Mistry's two daughters in addition to his two boys. The latter wed Noel Tata, Ratan Tata's half-brother and chairman emeritus of Tata Sons.
