Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s YouTube channel was blocked in India on Friday amid the ongoing tensions between the two neighbours over the deadly terrorist attack in Jammu & Kashmir's Pahalgam that killed 26 tourists.

Apart from this, Instagram accounts of several Pakistani celebrities, including that of singer Atif Aslam, cricketers Shahid Afridi and Babar Azam, and actor Fawad Khan, Hania Aamir and Mahira Khan have also been suspended.

The accounts have been blocked after the Indian government banned 16 Pakistani YouTube channels a few days ago. These included prominent media outlets like Dawn News, Samaa TV, ARY News, and Geo News. The channels were banned for airing provocative and communally sensitive content, false and misleading narratives and misinformation against India.

The Indian government has initiated the digital clampdown following the terror attack in Pahalgam. Additionally, India has taken a string of diplomatic actions against Pakistan. On April 23, India downgraded diplomatic ties with Pakistan and announced a series of measures including the expulsion of Pakistani military attaches, the suspension of the over six-decade-old Indus Water Treaty and an immediate shut down of the Attari land-transit post.

In retaliation, Pakistan has also shut its airspace to Indian flights and halted trade, including indirect trade via third countries. Islamabad has rejected the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and said that any attempts to cut water flow would be considered an "act of war."
