Opposition asks govt to hold all-party meet on women’s reservation, delimitation bills
Several opposition parties on Tuesday wrote to the government, asking it to convene an all-party meeting to discuss how the women’s quota law will be implemented. They said the meeting should be held after the ongoing assembly elections are over in April.

In a letter to Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, the opposition noted that a similar request had been made on March 16, 2026, seeking a meeting chaired by the Prime Minister to discuss the roadmap for implementing the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, 2023. The law is officially known as the Constitution (106th Amendment) Act.

The letter, signed by leaders from multiple opposition parties except the Trinamool Congress, said the government should share details of the proposed amendments to make the discussion more productive.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh handed over the letter to Rijiju after a morning meeting of opposition leaders in the chamber of Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge.

Signatories include Congress president Kharge, Samajwadi Party leader Ramgopal Yadav, AAP leader Sanjay Singh, Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders Sanjay Raut and Arvind Sawant, CPI(M) leader John Brittas, CPI leader P Sandosh Kumar, NCP(SP) leader Supriya Sule, JMM leaders Mahua Maji and Joba Majhi, N K Premachandran (RSP), Thirumaavalavan Tholkappiyan (VCK), E T Mohammed Basheer (IUML), and leaders from JKNC, CPI-ML and DMK.

The move comes after the government said it plans to introduce two bills in the ongoing Budget session to implement the women’s reservation law before the completion of the delimitation exercise for Lok Sabha and state assemblies.
