ONGC, Afcons Infra announce separate cyclone Tauktae compensation plans
ONGC and its service provider Afcons Infrastructure Ltd have announced separate compensation plans for the families of the deceased and the survivors of the barge that sank after being hit by Cyclone Tauktae on Monday.

ONGC will extend an immediate relief of ₹1 lakh to the 186 survivors of the sunk barge P-305 and ₹2 lakh to the families of the deceased or missing persons, a statement said. So far, 51 people have been confirmed dead and 24 are missing. ONGC will also extend the same amount of compensation to the two survivors and the families of the 11 missing personnel of Varaprada, the anchor handling boat of barge Gal Constructor.
Afcons, which operated the barge P-305, said it would ensure that the families of the deceased would receive a total compensation “equivalent to balance period of service up to 10 years salaries through a combination of ex gratia pay-outs and insurance compensation”.
“While the modalities of the payments are being worked out, it is estimated that total compensation would range from Rs 35 lakh to Rs 75 lakh per family,” Afcons said.
