Bengaluru building collapse: Five killed, 14 saved; rescue ops underway
Seven people have died after a seven-storey under-construction building collapsed in Babusapalya, Bengaluru, on Tuesday during heavy rains.

Five others were injured and have been admitted to the hospital for treatment.

Two rescue vans from the fire and emergency department were deployed to the site. Officials reported that the collapse occurred amid a heavy downpour, and initially, 20 people were believed to be trapped under the debris.

According to a preliminary investigation by a fire department official, the entire building collapsed, trapping those inside.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar visited the scene to assess the situation. He stated that 14 people had been rescued, with seven still receiving treatment in the hospital.

Shivakumar confirmed that the building was illegal and assured that strict action would be taken.

"I have been informed there was no permission, and illegal activities were taking place. We will take strict action against the owner, contractors, and everyone involved. We will ensure that illegal constructions across Bengaluru are stopped immediately. I will conduct a comprehensive survey to address this," he told reporters.

He also mentioned that registrars will be instructed not to accept transfers of properties without proper plan sanctions, emphasizing his commitment to stopping illegal construction.

An FIR has been registered against Munirajareddy, Mohan Reddy, and Elumalai following the collapse of an under-construction building in Bengaluru's Horamavu Agara area. Bhuvan Reddy, son of Munirajareddy, and contractor Muniyappa have been arrested.
