Arrested accused Anisur Laskar, who is reportedly a CPI-M party worker, was arrested from Nadia district by police. Police said Anisur Laskar, the main accused, was absconding.
“Anisur Laskar and Kamaluddin- the two main accused have been arrested. They have confessed their crime. We are investigating the case,” a senior police official said.
Two persons, including a Trinamool Congress Area (Anchal) President, were allegedly murdered in South 24 Parganas District's Joynagar on Monday morning.
CPI-M leadership denied that Anisur Laskar was their party worker. CPI-M Central Committee member and senior leader Sujan Chakraborty said, “Trinamool was unable to capture this village which was dominated by CPI-M workers. This was their ploy. The CPI-M party supporters are purposely linked in the case.”
Major row broke out after the death of the Trinamool leader as several houses of CPI-M supporters in the adjoining villages were set ablaze and ransacked on Monday, in retaliation of the Trinamool leader’s death, people in the know said. Many CPI-M workers had become homeless following the incident.
The Trinamool Congress leader Saifuddin Laskar was shot dead at Joynagar on Monday morning while he was returning from morning prayers (namaz). Following the incident, a group of people lynched an alleged assailant, police officials said. Saifuddin Laskar was a Trinamool Area (Anchal) president of Bamungachi in Joynagar.
“The culture of violence originates in CPI-M. This has been proven in the way the Trinamool leader was murdered in Joynagar,” Trinamool state spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said.
