'One district, One force' in 16 Manipur districts to flush out miscreants
Authorities in Manipur have introduced a "One district, One force" approach to tackle violence in the area. Central forces will join state police to carry out joint operations across 16 districts following ethnic violence that began in May.

On Wednesday, miscreants torched 15-16 houses, shops and forest house at Moreh as Manipur police detailed 455 persons in connection with various violations in different districts. "The state administration informed about the difficulties in carrying out operation with central forces deployed in entire Manipur following which the Centre advised that separate CRPF and BSF companies can be marked to each district and SPs can coordinate with the commander," said a North Block official, adding that the move also aimed to disarm those possessing looted weapons.
Officials said that 'One district, One force' will further help in normalising the situation as the Centre is of the view that the security forces will have to remain deployed for a very long tenure. More than 125 companies of central armed paramilitary forces (CAPFs) have been deployed for nearly 3 months. Besides central forces, Assam Rifles is deployed in the state for counter-insurgency operations as well as the border guarding force. Manipur has witnessed unprecedented violent clashes killing 150 people in attacks, counter attacks and arsoning of houses, vehicles and government and private properties.
Recently, a video of naked women paraded and raped by a mob became viral following which Manipur police arrested 5 suspects in the case. Several cases of rape and murder, arsoning have been reported from various parts of Manipur. More than 6,000 FIRs have been registered by the state police and as many as 2,000 snatched weapons have been collected so far. The CRPF teams include women contingent to contain women protestors. Recently, CRPF posted two additional DIG rank officers in addition to one DIG level officer for better management of troops across the state.
