Omicron threat: Night curfew extended till December 31 in eight Gujarat cities

The state's total Omicron tally reached 11 with four new cases on Sunday.
With The state government in Gujarat has decided to extend the night curfew in eight major cities until December 31. The curfew is in place from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.

The eight cities where the night curfew has been extended are Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Surat, Vadodara, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar, Gandhinagar, and Junagadh.

The move comes in the wake of the looming threat of Omicron variant of Covid-19.


On Sunday four new cases of Omicron variant were detected in the state taking the total tally so far to 11.

A 45-year-old NRI and a teenage boy who came from the UK, a Surat-based woman who had recently visited Dubai and a Tanzanian national are the new patients of the Omicron variant found in the state.

The NRI (non-resident Indian) had tested positive for the coronavirus infection in the RT-PCR test carried out at the Ahmedabad international airport soon after his arrival from the UK on December 15, a health department official said.
