This initial clash set off a chain reaction, with the conflict spreading to Golapokhari, Motiganj, and Cinema Chhak areas late into Monday night. Members of one community reportedly attacked the homes of another, resulting in the destruction of property and vehicles set ablaze. The situation became so volatile that the police had to resort to baton charges and ultimately impose Section 144 to maintain order.
In response to the escalating violence, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi intervened, directing immediate measures to restore peace. Additional Director General of Police (Law & Order) Sanjay Kumar was deployed to Balasore, where a police flag march was conducted. Approximately 30 individuals have been arrested in connection with the clashes.

"All entry points to the OT Road has been closed," police said, adding that "No person shall leave their homes or shall move on foot, or by vehicle or travel except for emergency medical aid."
"Adequate police arrangements in the sensitive areas have been made and the situation is getting under control though some sporadic violence was reported in some places yesterday," said a senior police officer.
As a precautionary measure, internet services were suspended in sensitive areas, and residents were urged to remain indoors. All entry points to the OT Road were closed, with strict restrictions on movement except for emergency medical aid. Balasore SP Sagarika Nath confirmed the imposition of curfew in the municipality area, with all commercial establishments and shops ordered to remain closed.
Despite these measures, sporadic violence was reported in some areas, prompting authorities to maintain a heightened state of vigilance. The situation in Balasore remains tense but under control, with efforts ongoing to prevent any further escalation of communal tensions.
