The official notification from the Office of the Collector and District Magistrate in Gajapati states, "In view of possible heavy rainfall due to cyclonic storm Michaung over the Bay of Bengal, all the primary, upper primary, high school, and anganwadi center shall remain closed on 6th December 2023."
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for heavy rain across several districts in Odisha. On December 6, this alert encompasses certain areas in the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Nayagarh, Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kandhamal, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Rayagada. Additionally, fishermen are cautioned against venturing into the deep sea along and off the Odisha coast from December 4 to 6.
In parallel developments, four districts in Tamil Nadu, namely Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, along with Krishna and NTR districts in Andhra Pradesh, have announced the closure of schools today, December 5, 2023. This preemptive move is attributed to the impact of Cyclonic Storm 'Michaung'. Accordingly, all schools, colleges, educational institutions, and government offices, including the Offices of Public Undertakings/Corporations, Boards, Banks, and Financial Institutions in the mentioned districts, will remain closed today.
As the nation braces for potential disruptions caused by Cyclonic Storm Michaung, authorities are taking necessary steps to ensure the safety of citizens.
