NTA probe finds NEET OMR sheets 'completely AI-generated', tampered; legal action likely

National Testing Agency (NTA) on Saturday said its probe found that one disputed NEET OMR sheet was "completely AI-generated" while another had been tampered with, after candidates alleged large discrepancies between their recorded responses and final scores, according to a report by The Times of India's Ardhra Nair.

The findings came hours after two students from Maharashtra alleged irregularities in their NEET results. Following its examination of the documents submitted by them, NTA said it would initiate legal action against candidates found to be circulating fake or manipulated OMR sheets to discredit the examination process.

One of the complaints came from a student in Pune, who claimed he had received two different OMR sheets — one downloaded from the NTA website on the night of July 13 and another sent via email on July 15. Though both carried his name, the responses marked on the sheets differed.


According to the student's father, "When we checked the OMR my son downloaded on July 13 against the official answer key, we calculated a score of 707 out of 720. But when the results were announced, he received just 217 marks based on the second OMR sheet."

In another case from Beed, per ToI, a student alleged that while the OMR sheet uploaded by the NTA matched his responses, he was awarded only 95 marks despite calculating that he should have scored 522 based on the final answer key.

After examining the material submitted by the Pune candidate, NTA concluded that the disputed OMR sheet was "completely AI-generated". In the Beed case, it said the OMR document had been tampered with.

"NTA is closely monitoring and scrutinising all complaints. In the wake of many OMR sheets submitted for scrutiny turning out to be fake/AI generated, students and parents are advised to submit only original OMRs for scrutiny. Any fake/AI generated OMR may invite legal action against the complainant," NTA said in a statement on X late Saturday.


Around 20 lakh candidates appeared for the NEET examination this year, of whom 11.21 lakh qualified for admission to undergraduate medical, dental, AYUSH and allied programmes.
