In the run up to the assembly polls in Manipur, NSCN (IM)is in full gear to make the people understand the importance of the ongoing Indo-Naga political talks with reference to the Framework Agreement (FA).

DG Robert the CAO (Central Administrative Officer) of NSCN-IM is spearheading the campaign.

A discourse on the Naga political dialogue was organized for the 57 Henglep Assembly Constituency (AC) at the ANSAM (All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur) Conference Hall, Tahamzan (Senapati) recently.

It was attended by all the village authorities, civil society organizations (CSOs), youth wings and students’ organizations. They extended their fullest support to the ongoing Indo-Naga political talks based on the Framework Agreement of the 3rd August, 2015.

Robert, while addressing the meeting, stressed on the critical importance of staying alert and less people are trapped by the unscrupulous elements/agents for mere politicking and appealed to the attending people never to compromise the Naga people’s rights for monetary gains. He also reminded the people that the Indo-Naga political talk is moving in the right track and fruition to come soon.

At the end of the meeting, the Rongmei people of Loktak Project Area under the 57 Henglep AC unanimously adopted the declaration,to extend fullest support to the Collective Leadership, NSCN and the Talk Team, to support the ongoing Indo-Naga political talks, to appeal both NSCN and GoI (Government of India) to expedite the Indo-Naga peace process based on the Framework Agreement inclusive of the Naga national flag and the Naga constitution (Yehzabo) and solution should be inclusive, honourable and acceptable to the Naga people based on the uniqueness of the Naga history.

The Centre has ruled out a separate flag and constitution earlier. Greater Nagalim has been one of NSCN-IM’s core demands. Greater Nagalim stipulates the integration of Naga inhabited areas of Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Myanmar.

There is stiff opposition to the NSCN-IM's demand in these states. The National People's Party (NPP), a part of the BJP-led government in Manipur, has complained to the Election Commission that its candidates were being threatened by militants.

In a statement recently, the NPP said its candidates were being intimidated and abused in a targeted manner by several militant outfits. It alleged that outfits such as the KNF-MC, KNF-Z, UKLF, KNA and HPC (D) had openly come out in a “blatant support” of its opponent’s candidates from the BJP and the Naga People’s Front (NPF).

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren singh has however ruled out threat from militants. The two-phase elections to the 60-seat Manipur assembly would be held on February 28 and March 5 and the counting of votes would take place on March 10.
