The 25th round of the talks is scheduled for Tuesday. It comes at a time when both sides have reiterated the importance of maintaining peace along the border for sustaining the relationship.

Doval and Wang are expected to discuss the prevailing situation on the border, including incidents reported recently along the Arunachal Pradesh side of the border. Other global developments are also expected to figure in the talks. ET was the first to report in May that Doval will visit China to hold negotiations ahead of Xi's visit.
The 36th meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation & Coordination on India-China Border Affairs (WMCC) was held in New Delhi earlier this month. It was underlined that maintaining peace and tranquillity in the border areas is essential for the overall development of bilateral relations.

Meanwhile, Jaishankar is in Moscow for an intergovernmental commission meeting with Russian deputy PM Denis Manturov that will prepare for President Vladimir Putin's September visit to India for September 12-13 BRICS summit and India-Russia industrial show INNOPROM.
