New Delhi: National Security Adviser Ajit Doval's absence from PM Narendra Modi's entourage to the US for the Quad Summit and the bilateral meeting with the President Joe Biden has raised eyebrows.

The absence of Doval comes in the backdrop of a US court summons issued against him. Though the summons are yet to be served formally, it's being viewed as problematic and incongruent with the overall spirit of the partnership.

Doval played a critical role along with his US counterpart Jake Sullivan in putting together iCET, the platform for cooperation in defence industry and civilian high-tech and telecommunications.

In September last week, Doval will travel to France for strategic dialogue and later, he will be in Russia for BRICS summit in October.

The US District Court for the Southern District of New York on the eve of Modi's departure for the US on Thursday issued summons to the NSA among others. The government will be engaging lawyers on the issue.
