National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on Monday met Oman’s top leadership, including Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, and discussed measures to boost security, technology, military and mining ties.

a Doval travelled to Oman from Egypt, where he was accompanying Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the weekend. Doval delivered a written message from the PM to Oman’s ruler that dealt with “various aspects of cooperation”.

Oman is India’s oldest strategic partner in West Asia and has played a key role in Saudi-Iran rapprochement. Muscat is also quietly assisting Iran and the USA to reach a deal. Oman has been invited to the September G20 summit and aother G20 meetings.


Doval also met Oman’s foreign minister Sayyid Badr Hamad Al Busaidi and discussed strategic relations between the two countries and “aspects of cooperation in promising sectors” The two officials discussed a number of regional and international issues.

Doval also held a separate meeting with Gen Sultan Mohammed Al Nu’amani, minister of the royal office and expressed his appreciation for “enhancing means of cooperation to achieve the joint interests of the two countries”. Oman’s significance also lies in the fact that it is a key state in the Indian Ocean Region.
