Now, Angelo Mathews' helmet in transport department's awareness campaign

Veteran Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Mathews' batting helmet has now made it into the road safety awareness campaign of Odisha State Transport Authority. Riding on the spotlight generated by Mathews controversial timed-out dismissal, the state transport authority in its latest rode safety campaign has stressed on the importance on the use of standard and certified helmets while driving on roads.

Mathews was ruled timed out during the World Cup match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh played on November 6 after he was not ready to face the first ball of his innings within the stipulated time of two minutes. The cricketer could be seen pointing out that the strap of his helmet was broken and sought another helmet.

In the awareness post on X and Facebook , the STA shared a post, "Don't throw away your wicket, play a consistent long innings. Always wear ISI certified helmet & tie the strap. Also encourage pillion rider to do so. On Field or Off Field Safety First always !"


The transport authority used Angelo Mathews photos with a caption: "On field or off field……bad quality helmets can take your wicket."



Many netizens praised the creative approach of the transport authority. "Appreciate the wit. Enjoyed...," commented an user on social media platform X.

Some users came up with hilarious remarks in the comment section. "But what about pitches? (Roads)"

According to the latest 'Road Accidents in India' report published by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Odisha reported 5,467 fatalities from 11,663 road accidents in 2022. The majority of these casualties were motorcyclists, with 2,498 individuals losing their lives in road accidents. Notably, 1,795 of these fatalities were attributed to riders not wearing helmets, as stated in the report.


Delhi Police also posted a tweet on their official X account accompanied by a picture of Sri Lankan cricketer Angelo Mathews, that read, "Delhitees! we hope now you have understood the importance of a ‘HELMET’."
