First cabinet meet at Seva Teerth signals new governance push
The Union Cabinet on Tuesday held its first meeting at the newly built Prime Minister’s Office complex, Seva Teerth, with the government portraying the moment as both symbolic and strategic — a statement of intent about the direction of governance under Narendra Modi.

Describing the venue as a manifestation of a "New India," the government said the new workplace reflects an effort to blend indigenous thinking with modern administrative capability, positioning it as a physical expression of evolving statecraft rather than just a change of address. The complex stands on land that once housed colonial-era temporary barracks, a transformation officials framed as symbolic of India’s journey from imperial rule to self-defined governance institutions.

"This meeting and this building are a direct expression of the reconstruction of New India," the press statement read.

In a resolution adopted at the meeting, ministers pledged that decisions taken at the premises would be guided by a spirit of public service and constitutional values, stressing that governance must remain accountable to citizens and focused on improving everyday life, especially for the most vulnerable.

"This premise is not merely a modern workplace. It is also a symbol of a new work culture in governance," the statement added.

The government said the new facility is intended to represent empowerment rather than authority, reinforcing a work culture centred on transparency, responsiveness and sensitivity to public needs.

The Cabinet also linked the new beginning to its broader reform narrative, citing programmes on health coverage, food distribution, sanitation, housing and drinking water as examples of policy aimed at simplifying citizens’ lives.

Reaffirming its long-term goal of building a developed nation by 2047, it said the spirit of "Seva Teerth" would guide future decisions and accelerate reforms as India seeks to strengthen its position among the world’s leading economies.
