Northeast reels under rain fury: Arunachal floods claim 7 lives, Mizoram evacuates hundreds, Guwahati grinds to halt
Guwahati: Incessant rain triggered fresh floods and landslides in different parts of Arunachal Pradesh on Monday disrupting road connectivity and damaging public infrastructure.

A senior state government official said Kurung Kumey district was the worst hit by the rainfall. In the Damin subdivision, a bridge connecting Huri and Damin was washed away, snapping road connectivity. In Pakke Kessang district, a massive landslide blocked National Highway 13 near Pakro village on Monday. Officials said restoration work is expected to take two to three days, and commuters have been advised to avoid travelling on the Itanagar-Seppa road until further notice.

Incessant rainfall has also caused inundation and landslides in several districts of Mizoram, prompting the Lalduhoma government to urge tourists to postpone their visits to the state over public safety concerns.

At least 100 families have so far been evacuated from Tlabung town and neighbouring areas in south Mizoram's Lunglei district, near the Bangladesh border, due to the overflowing of the Khawthlangtuipui river. In an advisory, the tourism department appealed to visitors from outside the state to avoid travelling to Mizoram until weather conditions improve.

Assam Rain

Heavy rain over the last 24 hours brought Guwahati to a standstill, with Jorabat emerging as the worst-affected area due to severe waterlogging and traffic congestion. Hundreds of vehicles remained stranded because of flooding on Monday. Heavy traffic congestion on National Highway 27 severely disrupted movement, while landslides further affected transportation through Jorabat.
