The woman had objected to Tyagi planting some trees in the society's common area, citing violation of rules. He claimed he was within his rights to do so.
The Noida district administration, in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh, demolished illegal residential extensions of Shrikant Tyagi, who claims to be a BJP leader and has been absconding ever since he was caught abusing and misbehaving with a woman in a residential society.

While the police announced a reward of Rs 25,000 on him, Tyagi moved the Surajpur court in Greater Noida with a surrender application.

The inspector in charge of the area, along with five other cops who had been deployed in the society for security after the incident, were suspended after alleged supporters of Tyagi forcibly entered the society on Sunday, raising slogans in his favour and creating a ruckus. Six such men were detained and sent to judicial custody on Monday.

BJP leaders denied any links with Tyagi, who calls himself a national executive member of the BJP Kisan Morcha, and has pictures with many prominent leaders of the party, including chief JP Nadda, UP BJP chief Swatantra Dev Singh and deputy CM Keshav Maurya. Monday's bulldozer action, which has come to be a hallmark of CM Yogi Adityanath’s regime, was welcomed by the residents, who claimed the illegal construction had been in existence for three years and that there had been no action against it despite complaints.

"Tyagi, whom people are calling a BJP leader, firstly is not fit to be called a leader. He is not an official functionary of the BJP and any such person who thinks that clicking pictures with leaders will provide him protection from action against him is mistaken, and Yogi Adityanath's action today proves it. It is not the government of SP, BSP where pictures with leaders could come to your rescue,” said the BJP’s UP spokesperson Rakesh Tripathi.
