A body has been found, but it is yet to be ascertained if it belongs to a 19-member group.
Kurung Kumey Deputy Commissioner Bengia Nighee said that district and police officials have been sent to Damin to know the whereabouts of the 19 workers, engaged by a contractor to work for a road construction undertaken by the Border Road Organisation (BRO).
“The feedback from the visiting officials was awaiting. The area is an extremely remote and dense forest. Considering the topography of the area, we have given requisition of Indian Air Force helicopter and the NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) to undertake an extensive search operation to locate the workers.”
These workers had gone missing a fortnight ago from a border road construction site in Damin circle of Kurung Kumey, about 300 KM from state capital Itanagar.
According to a missing complaint filed by the contractor under whom these 19 migrant labourers who had come from Assam were working, the labourer had alleged fled the labour camps at the road construction site of the Border Raods Organisation (BRO) in Damin circle on July 5 after the contractor reportedly denied them leave to go back to their homes in Assam to celebrate Bakra Eid, held on July 12. The missing report was filed with the local police station on July 13, Police sources added.
Damin is about 130 KM from Koloriang and the construction site is another 15 KM walk from Damin. The LAC with China is about 80 KM from Damin.
