Union Home minister lays foundation stone of projects worth ₹825 crore in poll-bound state
Guwahati: Union home minister Amit Shah on Friday said that there has been no infiltration in the last ten years of BJP rule in Assam, adding that in next five years, under the leadership of chief minister Himanta Biswa, it will be ensured that all infiltrators are detected and thrown out from the state.

Shah said that only the BJP can keep Assam safe from illegal infiltrators and urged people to bring the party back to power in the next assembly elections. Assam is likely to go to assembly polls in March-April this year.

Addressing a rally in Dibrugarh, which is hub of tea production, Shah said the recently-signed Free Trade Agreement with the European Union will benefit the tea industry in Assam. During his visit, Shah laid the foundation stone of several projects worth ₹825 crore, including the second legislative assembly complex at Dibrugarh. He also participated in a youth festival of the Mising tribe in Dhemaji.

Attacking the Congress, Shah said the party ruled Assam for several decades but kept the border porous resulting in infiltration as they used these infiltrators as a vote bank. The BJP government in Assam has freed over 1.26 lakh bighas of land from encroachment by these Bangladeshi infiltrators, he further said. "Illegal infiltrators have already become the majority in seven districts of Assam, including Dhubri, Barpeta, Darrang Morigaon, Bongaigaon, Nagan and Golapara. Once the number of illegal infiltrators was minimal in Assam, but they have grown to 64 lakh now," he said while appealing to the people to make vote the BJP to power for the third time so that the problem of illegal infiltration can be stopped once and for all. Shah appreciated the Mising community for not allowing the illegal infiltrators in Char Chapori and other districts where the Misings live. "However, the responsibility does not end there; the Mising community must ensure that the illegal infiltrators are thrown out of Assam."

The Union home minister said the Congress during its rule gave this state bullets, bomb blasts, deaths and insurgency. "After the BJP government under Narendra Modi took over, 20 peace accords were signed and more than 10,000 youths laid down arms in Northeast India." Blaming the Congress governments in the past for the demographic changes, the home minister said that the BJP government is now working to reverse the demographic trend.
