No case of Omicron sub-variant BF.7 found in Delhi so far: Arvind Kejriwal

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Thursday that no case of Omicron sub-variant BF.7 has been found in the national capital so far.

He said, "Covid cases are rising in China and several other countries. It has BF.7 variant. We don't have a single case of that variant in Delhi. So there's no need to worry."

He added, "We are doing genome sequencing. XBB variant of Covid accounts for 92% of positive cases; BF.7 not detected even in sewage samples taken from 7 places in Delhi."


Talking about Covid preparedness he informed that Delhi aims to prepare 36,000 beds pertaining to Covid.

He said, "We have 8,000 beds for Covid in Delhi. Now, we aim to prepare 36,000 beds pertaining to Covid. We have a storage capacity of 928 mt tonne oxygen in Delhi."

He added, "We have 380 ambulances, we have given orders for procuring more ambulances. We are waiting on the guidelines of the Central government, as and when it gives orders we will implement."

The Delhi CM also requested people to take precautionary doses.

He said, "Only 24% of people have taken the precautionary dose, we request the people to take precautionary dose."

Earlier in the day Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya informed that India has started 2 per cent random sampling of international travellers coming to the country and may consider making it mandatory for all if necessary.

Mandaviya asked states to remain alert and create awareness about wearing face masks and using hand sanitisers, especially in view of upcoming festivals and new year celebrations.

Making a statement in Lok Sabha, Mandaviya said the continuously evolving nature of the virus poses threat to global health in a way that impacts virtually every country.

The minister said India has been reporting 153 new cases on an average every day as against 5.87 lakh on a daily basis across the world.
