NITI Aayog will soon undertake study on sectors that can make India a global manufacturing hub. It has invited bids from nine institutions by February 14 to do a research study for the Aayog to identify the key sectors that have the potential to transform the country into a global manufacturing hub.

As per the request for proposal document, seen by ET, the nine institutions are Aeon Market Research, CRISIL, Ernst & Young, Nangia & Co, KPMG Advisory Services, SR Asia, ISID, NCAER and Projection Strategy. The selected bidder or consultant will have to submit the report in four months.

The consultant ( shall also mean bidder) will be selected through the Quality and Cost Based (QCBS) selection method with 70% weightage to the technical proposal and 30% weightage to the financial proposal, the Aayog said in the RFP document.

“The study will focus on analyzing various factors, including future trends in manufacturing, industrial capabilities, infrastructure, policy framework, and market potential, to determine the sectors that offer the most significant opportunities for India's manufacturing growth,” the Aayog said.

The selected consultant will be expected to map India’s manufacturing sector with the global landscape, undertake sector wise future trends in global manufacturing for at least 12 sectors may be covered and identify key sectors in India with high growth potential for manufacturing considering the value of product, manufacturing efficiency and global demand.

Besides, it will also be expected to assess the existing industrial capabilities, infrastructure, and other factors of production in the identified sectors and recommend strategies and interventions to overcome challenges and promote growth in the identified sectors in order to make India a global manufacturing hub.

The study is expected to include analyzing the future trends in global manufacturing and India’s position in this regard and analyzing the current state of various sectors in terms of production capacity, technology adoption, and export potential.

Further, it will assess the infrastructure requirements, including transportation, logistics, power supply, and digital connectivity, for each identified sector and examine the policy framework, including regulatory environment, tax structure, trade agreements, and ease of doing business, relevant to manufacturing in India.

The study will include conducting primary research through surveys, interviews, and case studies to gather insights from industry experts, policymakers, and relevant stakeholders and develop recommendations and strategies to overcome challenges and promote growth in the identified sectors.
