During the 12-hour operation that started at 5 a.m., officials demolished nine religious structures and 45 lodges. The land cleared totaled 102 acres, valued at approximately Rs 320 crore, district collector D D Jadeja told ToI.
The proper procedure of issuing notices was followed before the demolitions. The administration even extended the notice period to allow the occupants time to vacate the structures, a ToI source said.
Police dispersed a large crowd that attempted to interfere with the drive. "Around 120 people were detained," said SP Manoharsinh Jadeja. The market in Prabhas Patan remained closed during the demolition.
To ensure order, the administration deployed 1,400 police personnel, blocked a 5-kilometer stretch of road, and used heavy machinery, including 35 earthmovers, 50 tractors, and 10 trucks. The debris removal will continue on Sunday.
The administration emphasized that the proper legal procedures were followed for the demolition.
