National Investigation Agency director general Dinkar Gupta on Tuesday asked Federal Bureau of Investigation chief Christopher Wray about the progress in the investigation on the attack on the Indian Consulate in San Francisco. Wray, who is in New Delhi with an FBI delegation, told Gupta that the FBI was aggressively probing the case.

"Gupta highlighted the active nexus between terrorist outfits and terrorist elements with members of organised criminal syndicates, which was spreading to the US as well," NIA said in a statement.

NIA is probing more than a dozen cases involving Khalistani elements for their attempt to revive Khalistan movement in Punjab and for recent attacks on Indian consulates and embassies in the UK, the US, Canada and Australia.

Gupta pointed out that threats in the cyber domain were increasing. Digital space was also being exploited by terrorists for propagating radical views and recruitment, he said. To this, Wray said cybercrimes are being committed to fund terrorism.
